Birthday Number 41

The girls kept with our tradition and decorated a birthday cake for me.
This year I got a bunny and confetti theme.
And singing. Lots of singing.

Birthday Girl

Yesterday was that magical day that Alexa has been counting down to for about a month. Her 7th birthday. She was singing to us the night before, "One more day till my birthday..." So here she is in front of her present pile in the morning.

I let her open one before school and Chloe really wanted it to be the one she got for her.

A Playmobile unicorn. They spent the rest of the time before school playing with it.

After school she got to open the rest.

Sweater and new skirt made by Grammie Eva.

We had to scoot out from our birthday celebrations and head to City Hall for an art award presentation (but we will cover that in a separate post).

She wanted a chocolate cake with raspberries and strawberries on top.

This morning she insisted on wearing her new outfit to school. Nice work Grammie!

Post 700

As a small defense in how long it has been since I posted anything (over a month as my mother point out last weekend) I did try topost last weekend but I had to fix my album so that I would have enough space to download more pictures. To be honest last weekend was a bit crazy as you will soon see.

Rounding out for post 700 I present you all of the things that I have not written about in weeks! Also known as finally downloading the pictures form my camera! We visted Maine over Thanksgiving. I mentioned to my mother that if she ever felt the need to just wip off more mittens our mitten basket seems to be full of singles. Not really sure where the other mate wanders off to. We left on a Saturday where she had begun a mitten for Chloe out of left over yarn she had from other projects. Four days later on Wednesday these arrived in the mail. Grammy is a knitting amchine I tell you!

I captured this very sweet moment of the girls reading together one Sunday morning after breakfast. Alexa had dug out all of our favorite Sandra Boynton books that we can not possibly part with.

Chloe had a birthday since I last posted too. Prior to her birthday party (which was a slumber party) I let her open the present from Grammie Eva. Grammie had gotten her a new sleeping bag. Since she has started attending sleepovers she has borrowed her sister's sleeping bag as she found her old Winnie the Pooh sleeping bag to be too embarrassing to use.
She was pretty excited!
The party was what you would expect with a total of seven children and me, but they all had fun and the house is still standing.
We decorated our Christmas tree.
And the dog...
Chloe requested a chocolate cream pie for her birthday this year instead of cake.
She opened her presents on the morning of her birthday.
And there you have it! Camera is empty and you are up to date. Hopefully it will not take me another month to post, but I make no promises!

Happy Birthday

Today is my birthday. This weekend the girls said they wanted to make me a cake again this year. Yesterday after we got home from Alexa's dance class theyw ent to work. They did most of it on their own. A combination of LAexa's love of cooking and Chloe's reading ability (to read the directions). I abandonded the kitchen (somewhat) while they worked. Although I did poke my camera around the corner while they were working to capture their efforts. Here they are discussing how to add eggs. The conversation went something like this:

Chloe, "It says we need three aggs."
Alexa, "I'm not very good at adding the eggs."
Chloe, "Me either."
Alexa, "Well, here it goes."

This morning, after I left for work, they decorated. Here is what they presented me after dinner.

I can't explain the sticker on Chloe's head, but she wouldn't remove it.

A bumblebee cake.

The Real Deal

Alexa is officially 6 now. I had her presents out at the bottom of the stairs this morning. Like Chloe's birthday that also fell on a  Monday, I told her she could open one before school.

She chose the one Grammy Eva mailed her and was very excited about getting her own Bananagrams game.

I decided she should open one from me too that contained a new skirt for dance class. She had dance class this afternoon and she was very excited about wearing it and the matching flower barrette.

She had a wonderful day with a school wide field trip to the Flynn to see a performance, cupcakes for her class after lunch, and we even bought some chocolates for her to hand out at the end of dance class (they all sang to her too). So now she is six and she told me tonight, "I think the chance at being six comes while you are sleeping so you don't notice it as much."

Birthday Party

Monday is a hard day to have a birthday. Especially if you have to go to school and your mom has to got to work. We tried to make the best of it though. I set out her pile of presents last night so she would see them this morning.

In fact Chloe was so excited that I didn't even have to wake her up this morning. She bounced through her door and into the bathrrom where I was getting ready announcing, "I'M NINE!" Just prior to six this morning.

I let her choose three presents to open this morning.

As you can see Alexa was a big help.

After we got home from work, school, and Alexa's dance class. She opened the rest.

We then had her special birthday choice dinner (don't get too excited it involved french fries). Then it was time for cake and ice cream.

She went to bed a happy and tired nine year old working her way thorugh the new books she got for her birthday.

A Stocking Stuffer

Nine years ago today Chloe Lynn came into this world and the wonderful nurses put her in her very own Christmas stocking.

So I, of course had her test it out yesterday for a bit of comparison.

How did she get that big?

It's a Birthday and Christmas Kind of Weekend

This weekend involved a lot of cooking. It is kind of crazy everything that has gone into the last few days. First off remember our garden pumpkin? Well, this is what he looks like now.

Oh yeah, he looks like this too.

That was baking item number one. Well, one and two combine since I has to cook the pumpkin and the seeds. Chloe already ate all the seeds though. Then there was this...

for a certain someone who is turning nine tomorrow.

And these

to take to school.

Then there was the pause in baking to get the Christmas tree up. An adventure that was made all the more interesting when it nearly fell off the car on the way home.

But it looks nice now.

We decorated the dog too.

Cabbie was thrilled. I swear he is thinking, "Ever stinking year they drag this stuff out."
Then there were the gingerbread men (and women) that Alexa wanted to bake.

My helpers worked really hard on those.

There was even a mommy gingerbread woman for me.

She was yummy. I ate her for dessert.
