Snow Day

Last day of winter and we had a snow day! We were pretty excited. Chloe is now basically convinced she can make them call a snow day by wearing her pj's inside out and putting spoon under her pillow. I know where I will be looking when the silverwear drawer gets low. At any rate, we busied ourselves with some art this morning.

Then I enforced my snow day rule. If you get no school for a storm you must go play in the snow. Out we went. Much to their joy it is very sticky snow.
I got to be the Snow Princess for the castle. You are all jealous.
The throne gets a bit cold on the butt though.

Alexa's Friend Party

This afternoon was Alexa's birthday party with her friends. She invited five girls over one ended up not being able to make it as she got sick. She chose a cowgirl/horse theme. We came up with games and decorations to match.

She had a hard time waiting for everyone to get here.

They made horse puppets.
I fed them.
Lots.
And there were presents.
Now I think she is officially sent into the seventh year with lots of smiles!

City Hall Art Show

This year both girls had an art piece chose to display in City Hall. So last night we headed down to see the artwork and get their awards.
Alexa is standing next to her house drawing using shapes.

Chloe is standing under her still life of a rooster. Don't worry the original was a plastic one!
Here is Alexa just having gotten her certificate and headed down the shake hands with the Mayor.

Birthday Girl

Yesterday was that magical day that Alexa has been counting down to for about a month. Her 7th birthday. She was singing to us the night before, "One more day till my birthday..." So here she is in front of her present pile in the morning.

I let her open one before school and Chloe really wanted it to be the one she got for her.

A Playmobile unicorn. They spent the rest of the time before school playing with it.

After school she got to open the rest.

Sweater and new skirt made by Grammie Eva.

We had to scoot out from our birthday celebrations and head to City Hall for an art award presentation (but we will cover that in a separate post).

She wanted a chocolate cake with raspberries and strawberries on top.

This morning she insisted on wearing her new outfit to school. Nice work Grammie!

Boston Get-Away

We took an overnight trip to Boston to kick off our February break. Our excuse (as if we needed one) was to visit the penguins at the aquarium. Alexa has been studying them in school, and I thought it would be a great excuse to give her a field trip to see real ones. Sadly the New England Aquarium is in the middle of a rennovation, so all but the Little Blue Penguins are staying elsewhere. However she said they were her favorite so we went anyway.
The seals were a big hit too.

One phase of the rennovation was complete and it involved a shark and ray touch tank. The kids loved it.

The rays were literally rubbing up against their hands.

They still had the other touch tank as well to see the tide pool creatures.

We stayed at a very nice hotel. It was part of our plan. If you only have one night, go big. We got to play in the hotel pool and ordered room service for dinner and breakfast.

Chloe highly recommends their chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.

We thought about moving in but decided to come home instead.
