Sick Day Gardening

Alexa has been battling this horrible flu virus since Friday. Her fever has been up as high as 102 at times. She seems to be on her way to getting better today. This morning she was down right peppy. So we decided to use the nice day to sprinkle some grass seed over Cabbie's favorite winter pee spots and get some of the early veggies into the garden. We looked through our seed packets and took out the early planters. We planted three kinds of carrots for our resident carrot lover, Chloe and sugar snap peas. We labeled the garden markers Lex had picked out a few months ago.

We dug the weeds out of the garden and loosed the soil up. Getting our rows ready for planting.

She went right to work plopping the seeds in and watering them after. It did take a lot out of her though. After some lunch outside she snuggled into her chair and took a nice nap. Still getting her strength back, but hopefully on the mend.

School Play

Chloe was in the school production of Willy Wonka. Well, she was in the chorus. All the third graders are, and she did it under duress. I did take it as a sign of how far she has grown up that she could tell me, "Mommy, this school play is really stressing me out." She is excited that next year as a fourth grader she can be in the set design. This appeals to her much more that being on stage. However, she did it.

and lived to tell the tale.

Easter

The girls prepared their Easter baskets last night. Alexa wanted to leave the Easter Bunny a thank you note and gift (some carrots).
Chloe made him a paper hat. A tradition she has done for years and can't say I know why she started it, but she is convinced he needs a new one each year.
Which meant the bunny had to get busy last night.
Chloe had us up at 6:30AM to get started. She was worried that the squirrels would steal some eggs like they did last year. The rumors on the block are that racoons made off with some of them. It is possible we were hit too as we were down an egg or two. They still had plenty to find. Chloe raced around the yard gathering them.

Alexa got some but it seemed like she had barely made it off the deck when Chloe had half the yard searched.

Chloe did take some out of her basket and hide them for Alexa to find. She is competative but not heartless. In the end it all ends up in one big loot pile anyway.

April Biking

We wanted to get outside for a bike ride today. It was sunny this morning but clouded over for the afternoon. We headed out butI layered us up as it was pretty windy. They were pretty ambitious and we ended up at the Forever Young Tree House. It is a very cool tree house built at Oakledge Park.

Chloe and I warmed up enough to take off our outer layers. Alexa kept telling me she was cold. At first we added my fleece.

Later we added Chloe's jacket too. She still said she was cold.

Easter Eggs

The girls worked on dying Easter eggs today. It is sign of how old they are getting that the process took MUCH longer than it use to. They are both more interested in creating unique designs than just whipping through dunking them in colors.
Like Alexa's face egg? Not sure if she is going to want to eat that one
