Super Puppy

There is a new super hero in our midst.

Super Puppy. Yes, Super Puppy. See her here in her cape?

She has a trusty side kick.

Another Super Puppy. They defend the world against dragons. At least this is what they tell me. The two dragons they were defending the world against didn't look too ferocious. This one appeared to be running to find food.

And this one was hiding her eyes from it all.

But fear not world you are safe. She promises to don her cape first thing in the morning and continue her quest.

Thanksgiving

OK, so I have been holding out on you a bit. I owe about a weeks worth of posts. Things have been rather busy around our little house. We had a lot of company over Thanksgiving which made for a really fun week. Along with the usual turkey and fixings, there were...

Cute, cuddly, little babies named Sam...

piano playing...

tiara adjustments and princess finery...

dance shows...

a lot of taira wearing factored into things...

butterfly sunglasses...

cute, cuddly dogs...

pathetic mooching dogs...

worn out squirrel chasing dogs...

and more cute, cuddly Sam moments.

We also learned a few things. We learned:

  • three girls can all sleep in one bedroom and actually mostly sleep
  • two little girls can share one bed and actually sleep, if they are properly worn out from a long day
  • making a good case for downsizing the McMansions of this world five adults and four children can actually get along in a house just under 1,300 square feet with one bathroom. Although I wouldn't want to test that for too long.
  • Grammie Eva will just keep on knitting things for ever if you keep feeding her and giving her access to new yarn. Her week's work: three hats, three pairs of mittens, and one pair of socks. The woman is a machine!
  • snow pants are excellent protection for children going ice skating for the first time.
  • a scant 1/8 inch of snow can send three children outside on a quest to build a snowman... not terribly successful, but it cleared them out of the house for a bit.
  • Three little girls can take a shower at one time and think it is fun too
  • four adults working together do not actually know a lot of the crossword puzzle answers

We really enjoyed having everyone. Alexa told me on Sunday, "I am really sad that everyone had to go home." We miss you and are so glad you came. Next time we will make sure to pack in Aunt Andrea and Uncle Ryan. I know they both look great in tiaras.

Cold Weather

This week the weather has taken a decided turn toward the cold. This isn't any surprise; it is November after all. I have mentioned before that Boston Terriers are not cut out for cold climates. I am not sure he would be cut out for hot ones either, but he definately becomes a heat seeking device in cold weather. Yesterday I found Cabbie and Lucy huddled together in the same sun spot.

Whatever it takes to stay warm.

Bad Habits

We have had a job for about a month and a half now. We are pet sitting. We take this job very seriously. The pet gets lots of love every day. Alexa and Chloe make sure of that.

It is possible we may have some explaining to do over a few bad habits. I don't feel completely responsible. I mean Lucy already had a pretty cushy life. As Alexa was quick to point out to me, "Mommy, Jason said we could feed the dog," and she is right. He did. He may not have realized exactly what that would look like in the long run. So for that I publicly apologize for any relentless begging habits that she may have picked up from the girls. You see dinner kind of looks like this around here...

As for our own dog Cabbie, a bit of a double standard holds. He is still sentenced to the "other room" during dinner. He waits out meals times with every bit the envious stares you can imagine, but he stays put.

Well, most of the time. As for Lucy's habit...

I am sorry.

They just can't resist that face!

A Day With Alexa

Today is Columbus Day. In some places (such as daycare centers) it is a holiday. In other places (such as public schools in Vermont) it is not a holiday. As a result Alexa's daycare was closed today, but my work was not. This scenario is familiar to me as I have had to deal with using a personal day on Columbus Day for years now. I did realize however, that this was the last time I would have to do it. Next year Alexa will be in kindergarten and I will spend the day at work. So we decided to make the most of our day with just Alexa and mommy. We started our day by walking Chloe to school. She next wanted me to make her a fruit smoothie and watch me work on her Halloween costume.
As you can see things got a little crazy.

Alexa mentioned last night that she really wanted to take the dogs for a walk today. It was a little chilly this morning so we bundled up and headed out.

When we got home she wanted to head out for a bike ride. It was a great day for it since it was warming up and sunny. After heading home for lunch and a little play time in the yard, we headed back over to pick up Chloe.

Alexa wanted to round out the day by riding her scooter over to Chloe's school. She was pretty tired by the time we got home and I am predicting an early bedtime tonight!

A Bean Plant and Some Bulbs

Chloe came home from school on Thursday carrying this...

A bean plant that she had planted on the first day of school. She was adamant that he needed a bigger pot and a stick to tie him to. We headed out today to get some more soil to repot the little guy. While we were there we picked up some bulbs to plant. We had stumbled upon a 50 percent off sale. We have covered my weakness for purchasing plants for the garden haven't we? We got right to work when we got home taking full advantage of a warm September afternoon. Chloe repotted her bean plant in a huge pot.

Alexa made sure to offer helpful advice and moral support.

After getting the bean plant all tucked in we were ready to tackle the close to 100 bulbs we bought. Alexa was set to help dig holes for our bulbs.

Cabbie did his usual foraging through the garden for sticks to chew on.

Lucy soaked up some rays.

We got a lot of new bulbs planted, giving us something took look forward to next spring after a long winter.

The bean plant has taken his spot in the office with plenty of stick to climb.

Pet Parties

Lest you think that we only make our own pets suffer humiliation, fear not we are equal in all our endeavors. Today was our house guests Lucy's 5th birthday. Knowing that this would be her first birthday without her dad, we wanted to make sure she didn't feel forgotten. Also any chance for a party is good by us. So we did the usual things for the birthday girl. In our house if it is your birthday you get to pick the dinner. We were not too sure what Lucy would choose so we added a little extra yummy in her kibble...

The party hat is a must.

There were gifts. We figured the party guest (Cabbie) needed a party gift too.

The birthday girl got two.
