Alexa's Last Day of Preschool

Alexa had her last day of preschool today. She has mixed feeling about it. She cried during the nap time when she had to say good-bye to the teacher who works the early morning shift. She is very sad about leaving her friends and teachers, but she excited to start kindergarten in the fall. Her teachers were very sad to see her go too. She has had a wonderful experience with them and grown a lot as a student.
Just for a little perspective, here is what she looked like on her first day of preschool at age three...

Phone a Friend

Alexa has a birthday coming up in nine days. She has it down pat. Alexa has been waiting for her birthday since Chloe's birthday about three months ago. I sent some party invitations in to preschool with her today. Tonight, just as the kids we getting ready to go upstairs for their shower, the phone rang. It was one of Alexa's friends from preschool. Not his mom, but the child. He is a very chatty little guy and was very polite in telling me who it was, and that he was going to be able to come to Alexa's party. He then asked to speak to Alexa.

It was at this point that I realize neither one of the girls had ever gotten a phone call from one of their friends before. They are still at the ages where the mom's do the outside of school planning. Now, of course, Alexa has talked on the phone before. However, if you ask the few people that she has spoken to, you will find she isn't much of a conversationalist. I often sit next to her feeding her things to say.

Tonight wasn't much different with the exception that the little boy on the other end of the line was able to carry the conversation for both of them.

Alexa said a few words and was quiet for quite awhile. I reminded her that she needed to talk to him too, "Mommy, he is still talking."

But here she is her first friend conversation on the phone...

and a boy no less.

My Secret Life

So it turns out I secret identity was revealed in preschool. Alexa brought home this picture she drew in school this week. The kids were studying heroes and they were asked to draw their hero. Alexa chose me. I was pretty touched that she said that... even more so when I saw the picture.

Yep, here I am. It is titled, "My Mom, going to save people." There you have it folks, my secret super hero identity is out. Sigh... next you are all going to want a ride in my rocket car.

Preschool Concert...again

Alexa's Preschool Concert

Alexa had a preschool concert tonight. She was very excited. She wanted to dress up.

I also let her wear a dress coat that was given to her by a co-worker of mine. It was a coat that her daughter had long since out grown, but Alexa loves to wear it for special occasions.

She did a wonderful job singing. I will try to post some of the video clips if the site cooperates.

Alexa's Drum

On Wednesday I picked Alexa up from preschool, and she was so excited to show me this drum. Their theme this week was Native Americans. The drums were a part of the study. She rattled off all the information her teacher had given them, "You have to play them softly because they are made out of paper and an oatmeal box, Mommy, so don't hit it hard." I would personally like to thank her teacher for the soft drum. She is a parent herself, so I think she was aware of the instant dislike parents would have for a teacher who would send eight four-year-olds home pounding on drums. The soft drum, however, is not too bad at all.

Preschool Halloween

Alexa had a performance tonight at her preschool.

The kids came in costume and sang some songs. She has been chatting about it all week and did a wonderful job.

If the site cooperates, tomorrow I will post a video clip. I am too tired to fight with it tonight!

Fire House

Alexa's preschool went on a field trip to the fire house today. It went along with their unit on communities and community helpers. Alexa was pretty excited as this was her first field trip. She has heard about her sister going on lots of them, but this was the first one she has gone on with her school.

I woke her up this morning and she wanted to wear something "fire stationy". Not being sure what that would look like we settled on a dog shirt, "Because firemen like dogs." She also chose a red vest as she felt it was important to wear red.

As you can see she was pretty excited about the whole thing.

She arrived home a bit mad that there weren't any fire dogs at the fire house, but she said she saw this many fire trucks.

She also had some wonderful coloring about all the things she saw...

including seeing the fireman in all his gear.

Preschool Day Two

Alexa was much less nervous today to head to preschool. Ah, what a difference a day makes. Before it was even time to leave she was wandering around the living room like this...

Of course this afternoon she was wandering around the yard like this...

First Day

Alexa had her first day back to preschool today. She was nervous. She picked out a new outfit for the first day.

Missing Mommy

I was emptying out Alexa's backpack today after school. I came across this picture..

I asked her about it. She told me, "I was missing you so I drew this picture of us." I am the one in purple. You may have recognized me already from my tiara. I don't often wear it out of the house as it makes it hard to blend in with the common folk, but apparently my true identity of princess was outed at preschool. Perhaps now Prince Charming can show up and we can get this whole happily ever after thing going because I tell you this working for a living thing is really over rated.

For Uncle Ryan...

Alexa has been going to preschool two days a week this year. It has been wonderful for her. It took me a lot of searching to find a place that would work for us. In the end we could not have asked for a better program. Each week they focus on a theme and a letter. They have the usual preschool type themes of shapes, colors, and holidays, but they also have some that resemble more school age topics. Things like magnets and famous artists. This week they are studying space. Alexa came home today with some wonderful prints of planets.

She also made something this week that she really wanted to make sure her Uncle Ryan saw. So Uncle Ryan this is for you…

She made a rocket ship. You see Alexa’s Uncle Ryan is a rocket scientist. As in the line, “Come on it’s not rocket science…” Turns out it is! She really wanted Uncle Ryan to see her ship, “Because maybe he could use my idea.”

So what do you think Uncle Ryan?

Holiday Cheer

OK so here is a teaser...

I tried, I really did. Twice even, but the blogger site video upload function simply is not working. I have run out of energy and am really afraid that I may soon fall asleep with my forehead pressed into the keyboard. Alexa's preschool had a Holiday party tonight. The kids sang songs. It was cute. I promise you it was, and you would have felt all warm and fuzzy inside and everything. Unfortunately you will have to wait for I need some sleep.

Preschool Halloween Performance

Alexa's preschool had a Halloween party tonight. The kids got to wear their costumes. Alexa requested to be a purple and pink kitty this year.

The four years olds decorated as section of the room like a haunted house. Lexa was not a fan of the "haunted house" even if it was really a few pumpkins and skeleton toys. She gazed from the door clutching Mommy's hand.

The night also included the kids performing three songs that they had been rehearsing. I, of course, brought my camera and video camera. Here they are performing their songs. I have the entire thing on video so I can make sure all of my house guests get the viewing pleasure.

Preschool

Since Alexa was a baby she has watched her sister attend school. First preschool a few days a week, and then on to kindergarten. Alexa has always been a smiley happy baby.

Truly, just an all around love bug.

However even Alexa has her moments, and for the last year she has been campaigning to go to school. Well, today she got her wish. Today was Alexa's first day of preschool. As you might expect her earlier excitement turned to anxiety and fears. She was nervous. We had a nice pep talk over breakfast, and decided that she should bring a stuffed friend for company.

She chose baby giraffe. Her special present she picked up at the Phoenix Zoo in February and off we went.

Notice the backpack is about as big as she is...

And yes, I cried after dropping her off. Because I am just that kind of mush ball.

Preschool Princess

Alexa is excited to be starting preschool in the fall. It took a lot if searching and phone calls, but I finally found a spot I think will be prefect for her. Small, curriculum based, experienced staff, full day program (for the working people you know), and open early enough that I can drop her off on the way to work. I spoke on the phone with the director last week to make sure that her days would work (she will attend Tuesdays and Thursdays) and confirm her start date- September 7th! She told me that all I had left to do was drop off a copy of her vaccination record and a tuition deposit.



Since Alexa is the shy around new people and situations I took this as another chance to have her visit the school. I took a picture of her when we got home so people could see how she visited her school today. I think they have the general idea of Alexa.

Yes, she is wearing a tiara.

As a side note I bought the girls these dresses a couple of weeks ago. Since they still think it is a lot of fun to match one another I try to encourage it. Easier to keep track of them when they look alike you know. You can see how well my picture taking went over... well, at least with one of them..
