Sick Day Gardening

Alexa has been battling this horrible flu virus since Friday. Her fever has been up as high as 102 at times. She seems to be on her way to getting better today. This morning she was down right peppy. So we decided to use the nice day to sprinkle some grass seed over Cabbie's favorite winter pee spots and get some of the early veggies into the garden. We looked through our seed packets and took out the early planters. We planted three kinds of carrots for our resident carrot lover, Chloe and sugar snap peas. We labeled the garden markers Lex had picked out a few months ago.

We dug the weeds out of the garden and loosed the soil up. Getting our rows ready for planting.

She went right to work plopping the seeds in and watering them after. It did take a lot out of her though. After some lunch outside she snuggled into her chair and took a nice nap. Still getting her strength back, but hopefully on the mend.

Missing the Party

Lexa was, to say the least, devastated to miss Chloe's party. I am grateful the Grammy Sharon had come to visit and was able to stay with her. Otherwise I would have had to cancel the party at the last minute. When we got home and Lex had some more Advil to bring the fever back down, she made one of the penguins from the party.

Actually she made lots of them. I had cut out a lot of extra pieces for them. Experience has told me that it is better to play it safe and have more than you think you will need. So Lex had a great time making all kinds of them. She decided to hang them on the tree.

It is a very penguiny Christmas this year.

I'm Calling It

I wake my kids up at 6:00AM. That is early by any standards. I get up at 5:00AM. That is unbelievably early. The funny part? If I am going to be out sick I have to call for a sub by 6:15AM. No kidding. That means if one of the kids is not feeling well I have 15 minutes to determine if they are just grumpy and whinny or really sick. I woke a rather reluctant Chloe this morning and she very soon began complaining about a stomach ache. As any mom will tell you the, "stomach ache" can have a lot of possible causes from serious to avoidance. With Chloe it can be especially hazardous as her stomach aches can often be the first symptom of a bladder infection. While we have been working hard with a lot of yoga, diet, and physical therapy to help this issue, we are still not out of the woods yet. With only a few minutes to decide, I hedged my bets and called in for a sub. Luckily things at the doctors checked out OK. This afternoon I set Chloe up to work on her reading assignment her teacher gave her via email (don't you just love technology?).

Alexa got a head start on her chores this weekend. Taking advantage of not having to go to daycare today, she got her hamster cage scrubbed out.

I bought some gloves for her, unfortunately the smalls are still huge. Apparently you can't buy rubber cleanning gloves in children's sizes.

Cutie gets to run around the bathtub while her cage gets all clean.

She finishes off by giving her fresh pine bedding.

It was a rather peaceful Friday.

The Best Laid Plans...

I was all set to write a post today depicting me taking the girls ice skating for the first time. They were invited to a birthday party today and we were all set to go. I charge the batteries in the camera, bought a gift, we were ready. That is until Alexa came down with a stomach virus in the middle of the night. I was up so much it felt like I had a newborn again... not that I think she was having an enjoyable time either. At any rate we were not able to go ice skating (Danny I hope you had a great party). Poor Alexa was so sick she didn't even come out of her room and downstairs until about 4:30. She did get her own entertainment show though. Chloe doing her best to cheer her sister up preformed a puppet show for Alexa, using penguins of course. She also wrote and read her some stories. Using that special flair that only Chloe can do.

Here is one of my favorites. It is called "Cabbie the Wonder Dog".

It says, " Cabbie! the wonder dog runs over to his food dish
to save it from a dust bunny!" Please note the lovely cape that Cabbie is wearing and the amount of kibble in his dish. I tell you she reached right into his dreams for that one.

It even inspired Alexa to prop herself up for a little drawing too.

Here is hoping she is better tomorrow and that Chloe and I don't become the next victims! Now if you will excuse me I must get back to my disinfecting and Purell Hand Sanitizer applied every 15 minutes.
