Chloe's Book

I am a rather forgetful parent at times. Chloe brought home this amazing book of poetry at the end of the school year back in June. I kept meaning to put it up here for others to see. It got buried in a pile of other papers that came home at the end of the year too. Today being the start of the new school year we are cleaning out all of the old things to make a place for the new. So here it is a little late, but I hope you enjoy it.

Art Opening

Chloe had an art opening Friday, June 3 at Frog Hollow on Church Street. It would have been stunning if I had remembered my camera. Unfortunately it was after work and I didn't remember to take it with me to work so no camera. Luckily it is hanging for awhile so we got back down there this weekend WITH the camera. So here it is...

hanging right in the front of the store. An artist from Frog Hollow came to work with Chloe's class on this amazing piece. It is made of clay and mounted on wood. Chloe is responsible for the wonderful looking turtle in the middle and the painting of the leaves (the dark ones) on the tree.Pretty cool huh?

Chloe's Concert

Chloe had a school concert last night. It went on so long that I was too tired to post the pictures last night. I am sure you were all able to muddle through somehow. The school had a local musician named Jon Gailmore visiting in a residency for the last two weeks. I think he is really only known around here for his music. he plays a lot of children's songs and thus performs in concerts for kids. He worked with all the classes to write and perform their own songs. They were really cute. All of the kids got t-shirts to wear to commemorate the night.

This is Chloe's class. If you look in the center of the back row under the sun, you will see her. She wasn't thrilled about performing, but she did it. She even smiled for the camera.

Happy Mother's Day

My Mommy

By Chloe

My mommy is special.

My mommy is kind.

She is nice to me all of the time!

I like my dog, my sister too,

But my Mommy is the best all the way through.

She is the best one-of-a-kind!

She'll let me play Webkinz a lot of the time.
My mommy is special.

My mommy is kind.

My mommy is nice to me all of the time.

I'm glad I have a mommy just like this!

Because when it's bed time

She will give me a hug and a kiss!

I hope all the mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's Day. A special thank you to Chloe's teacher for having them write poems to their moms for mother's day. It made my day.

Chloe's Concert

Chloe was in a music concert tonight at school. She was not thrilled about going, but when I read to her that her teacher said if you attend the concert then you don't have homework she perked up a bit. I wont say she was particularly thrilled to be up there, but it was cute and I enjoyed myself.

I took a few shots to post and some videos that I will try to put up. It was pretty crowded so I had to stand quite a distance back. She is in the first row, second from the right side in a long red dress.

The whole Prek- 2nd grade for the grand finale.

A Sunday...

This is what your Sunday afternoon looks like if your mother learns that you have neglected to complete any of the entire week's reading homework you were suppose to be working on all vacation.Good thing she is a good reader, and we have a public library really close to our house.

Literacy Breakfast

Chloe had her Literacy Breakfast at school today. Twice a year they invite parents in to eat breakfast, hear the kids read, and to read what they have been writing. Chloe was really helpful with her sister making sure that she got a bagel.

She read us one of her favorite stories about a horse.

She shared her writing folder with me. I thought her Aunt Andrea would like to see that she wrote a story about her cats. She wrote about all five cats.

Sadly two of the cats are no longer alive, but I guess that is the best part of writing your own stories- you can make it happen in whatever way you want.

Taiko Drumming Concert

Chloe was in a school concert tonight. Her school has had a visiting Taiko drumming artist for the past two weeks teaching the children. There was a school wide concert tonight for all the classes to perform what they had learned. The concert was set outside and would have been a wonderful location were it not raining. The kids did wonderfully despite the cold rainy weather.

Chloe was nervous about performing. She felt that she wasn't sure of some of the parts. As you can see she looks rather nervous at times.
Chloe is to the right of the center drum that the instructor was playing.

She was a good sport though and despite being rain soaked she still managed a smile for me at the end for the school wide dance.

Open House

Chloe's school had their annual open house tonight. So after eating a quick dinner we headed back to school. Alexa was just as excited as Chloe. They were all smiles on our walk to school.

We arrived a few minutes early and played a bit on the jungle gym before everything started. Alexa was thrilled to play with her sister at the "big kid" school. Until Chloe found her two buddies and off they ran leaving Alexa feeling a bit left out. We tracked them down in the field and they let her join in making Alexa feel even better. Nothing like having the big kids include you in the fun.

I asked Chloe what she wanted to make sure she showed us. Here are her highlights...

Her self portrait.

The class tessellation.

Her individual pegasus listing her hope for the year.

First Day of Second Grade

Well, despite being so excited she had a hard time getting to sleep last night Miss Chloe was up bright and early for her first day of school today. She was ready a full hour before she had to leave. Here she is chomping at the bit to head out.

It was a stifling 92 degrees today, but she endured it. She arrived home with nothing but positive stories.
